Ultimate Aero XT: SSC Bids Farewell to the Ultimate Aero

SSC Ultimate Aero XT

In 2007, SSC North America took on the hyper-car world with the release of the Ultimate Aero, setting its sights on the speed giant Bugatti Veyron and it’s record as the world’s fastest car.  In March 2007 the 6.35 liter twin-turbo V8, 1183 hp, 2.7 sec 0-60, $654,400 Ultimate Aero took the record at fastest production car at 257 mph and held the record until July 2010.

SSC is ending production of the Ultimate Aero, and to commemorate the occasion, they are releasing a limited five car run of a tricked-out version of the Ultimate Aero, the XT.  The Ultimate Aero XT is kind of a transition car to the forthcoming SSC Tuatara.  The XT features several key elements off of the Tuatara: its 6.9 liter 1300 hp twin-turbo V8, paddle shift seven-speed gearbox, brakes and cooling & fuel systems.  Think Ultimate Aero shell with Tuatara guts.

The XT will also get buyer-personalized paint that will never again be used by SSC.  The Ultimate Aero XT has a 44/56 weight distribution, back-up camera, navigation system, pneumatic lift to overcome the occasional speed bump and runs on Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires fitted to 19 in alloys.  Basically, it’s an appropriately badass way to say goodbye to a badass car.
