The Girard-Perregaux 1966 Chronograph Doctor’s Watch is Fit For an Unhealthy Obsession

The Girard-Perregaux 1966 Chronograph Doctor’s Watch in Rose Gold Edition of 10

One thing I am absolutely sure of is no matter how many times I write those two words, I will never, ever be able to spell “Girard-Perregaux” without looking it up.  Actually, the same goes for “Koenigsegg”.  Not sure why, but I think it has something to do with the double consonants.  Another thing I am sure of is I have always had an appreciation for Doctor’s watches.  At the top of my list are the Longines One-Button Chronograph and the Hamilton Sectron.  Both very cool and both very hard to come by.

However, thanks to a new offering from Girard-Perregaux, I am adding a new watch to my prescription list, the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Chronograph Doctor’s Watch.  While it is also very cool (and I mean VERY cool), it is, if anything, even harder to come by.  GP is only making twenty examples of this watch, ten in Rose Gold and ten in White Gold.  And, all twenty will be exclusively sold through the Parisian retailer Dubail.  €24,700 for the 18k Rose Gold and €26,100 for the 18k White Gold.

Mechanically speaking, the GP 1966 Doctor’s Watch takes the basic 1966 Chronograph 38 jewel movement and ads a “pulsometer” scale which isn’t all too different from a tachymeter scale found on most chronographs.  But, where the tachymeter scale helps to calculate speed, the pulsometer helps to determine heart rate.  Neat.  Just add the number indicated by the second hand to the first thirty counted beats, and, presto, you have a heart-rate.
