MINI Concept Highlights

MINI has long been a brand of fun designs, goofy elements (dinner plate-sized speedometers and color changing LEDs) and go-cart driving feel.  Odd to think that the MINIs that make it to the showroom floor are the more sedate and tempered versions of the truly off-the-wall concepts.  I thought it would be interesting to take a look at some of the more MINIish concepts that have come down the pike over the past few years.  Some have made it into garages, but some of the coolest have not.

This is the concept that started it all.  Four years later, in 2001, the first of the modern MINIs came to be.  This right-hand-drive two-seater is reminiscent of the Mini that won the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally.  This design almost seems half Morgan, half MINI.  I wish MINI has used this as a template to create the MINI Coupe.  This car lies at the soul of every current MINI.
