A Great Cheese Shop in Summit, New Jersey…Who Knew?

Summit Cheese Shop, Summit, NJ

A few days ago, I was meandering around the NJ Transit train station in downtown Summit, NJ when I ran across the Summit Cheese Shop.  Always happy to find a cheesemonger, I stopped in.  Man, am I glad I did.

This place is great.  As soon as you walk in the door, you’re greeted by to aromas of all the amazing cheeses.  Looking through the various cases, this shop has a great selection of common and not-so-common artisanal and hand-made cheeses.  My favorite cheese is blue d’auvergne.  I was very pleased that they not only carried it, but the particular cheese they had was among the best I’ve ever tasted.

In addition to cheeses, the Summit Cheese Shop has a decent selection of charcuterie and antipasti.  I picked up a good amount of Jamon Iberico de Bellota for a very good price, definitely less than I would pay in Manhattan.

In addition to the cheeses, olives and meats, the Summit Cheese shop has a modest, but quality, selection of gourmet grocery items.  Apparently, they offer a lunch menu to-go menu, but I have yet to try anything.

If you’re in the Summit area, I heartily recommend a stop in.  It’s worth the trip.  The Summit Cheese Shop is located at 75 Union Place, Summit, New Jersey, across from the train station.
