2014 Jaguar F-Type

Jaguar’s Teaser Photo of the Brand’s F-Type

2014 is going to be a good year for cars.  The C7 Corvette, the Audi R5 and the new Land Rover Defender are all expected to hit showrooms as 2014s.  But, the car that is possibly the most anticipated (other than maybe the Corvette) is the forthcoming Jaguar F-Type.

Fans of the brand and fans of cars in general have soft spot in their hearts for the famed Jaguar E-Type of yore.  That car is and was the definition of a sleek, powerful and sexy roadster.  Many hope that Jaguar’s new F-Type, set to launch in late 2013, will be the modern incarnation of that classic cat.

At the 2012 New York Auto Show, Jaguar announced that the F-Type would be officially going into production.  During the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, Jag confirmed the F-Type would offer a new supercharged 3.0 liter V6 good for 380 hp.  That would be a good amount of power for a car that size.

But, that’s not nearly enough bhp when the fate of the E-Type’s reincarnation is at stake.  According to a report from Inside Line Jaguar will offer their 542 hp 5.0 liter V8 as an alternative power plant.  Fingers crossed for a supercharger bolted to it.

That puts this car in the class of Aston Martin’s V8 Vantage, the Porsche 911 and the Mercedes SLK55 AMG.  Perhaps now Jaguar is setting the future XK’s sights on the big Aston Martins, Maseratis, AMGs and Porsche.

As far as the details of the F-Type are concerned, we’ll have to wait until later this year.  Jaguar is planning on unveiling at an auto show in 2012.
