2013 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 Sets an Official Top Speed of 202 mph

I don’t know about you, but ever since the 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 was released with its spectacularly powerful 5.8 liter supercharged V8 with 662 Motor City horses all stampeding through a good-old six-speed stick, I’ve been wondering just how fast that car can go.  We know it can sprint to 60 miles-per-hour in 3.5 seconds and complete a 1/4 mile run in 11.8 seconds.  But, just if it had its fill of track, what would be the 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500’s top speed?

Well, thanks to the people over at MustangsDaily.com we now know. Ford’s SVT chief engineer Jamal Hameedi took the GT500 over to Italy’s Nardo high-speed test ring to see just how fast it can go.  Earlier this year, Hameedi told MustangsDaily.com: “There’s plenty of places to hit 180 mph in the U.S. but not many places to go 200 mph.”  Nardo is one of those places.  There, SVT recorded an official top speed of 202 miles-per-hour for the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.  So, now we know.  202 mph.  For a Mustang.  With a live rear axel.  Wow.
